As taxpayers continue to be asked to fund generous corporate subsidy programs, lawmakers are now dueling over two new spending ideas, reimbursing localities to phase-out the car tax and public funding for free college tuition, each of which would likely further raise taxes and fees on Rhode Islanders. But would these programs make Rhode Island a better state? Not only does cutting the sales tax to 3.0% make sense for improving our state’s troubled economy, it is also the cure to the dangerous progressive agenda.
The four major PROGRESSIVE legislative initiatives that Rhode Island families and business owners should be worried about are:
- Increased hiring costs by significantly raising the state’s minimum wage (multiple bills), costing many Rhode Islanders their jobs
- Mandated “paid leave’ that will further burden every RI employer (H5413)
- Free-college tuition that you and I have to pay for by keeping our taxes high (Governor’s budget)
- Legalization of recreational use of marijuana (H5555) would harm families, society, and workplaces
The answer to these liberal schemes is to CUT THE SALES TAX to 3.0% – boosting the economy, improving our state’s business climate, and creating thousands of good paying jobs. Their “fair shot” agenda is really a “no shot” agenda. We’ve created a new video clip, that is making news across the state, to show what their job-killing agenda would look like. Can you help us meet our goal of raising $5,000 so we can run radio and social media ads? Time is running out to give.
As President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the creator of the American social safety net state said in 1935, “Continued dependence upon relief induces a spiritual and moral disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fiber. To dole out relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit.” Rhode Island Lawmakers need to realize that our policy culture of considering only the material needs of individuals has, all along, been harmful to the family unit.
