“Fox On The Run”

Yesterday, the U.S. Attorney, the R.I. State Police, the FBI and the IRS executed search warrants on the State House office and home of Speaker Gordon Fox. From a picture tweeted out yesterday by the Providence Journal, it appears that part of the door to his professional office on Custom House was boarded up. It’s unclear whether this is related to the two raids. A passel of WPRI reporters confirms that there were only two search warrants executed.

Jim Martin, a spokesman for Rhode Island U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha, told WPRI.com the shutdown of Fox’s office on the third floor of the State House was part of a “joint law enforcement action” by the U.S. attorney’s office, the Rhode Island State Police, the FBI and the IRS. Martin confirmed that two search warrants were executed Friday.

Excellent story in today’s ProJo by Kathy Gregg. We have yet to hear what potential criminal activity triggered this dramatic development or whether it even involves Speaker Fox directly.

Gregg’s story also references the dualing Democrat caucuses (caucusi?) that took place yesterday. It sure didn’t take long for the political sharks to smell blood and start circling. WPRI’s Nesi and McGowan describe two of them: one at the Marriott and a second at Venda Ravioli.

However, WPRO’s John Loughlin, filling in right now on the WPRO’s Saturday Morning News, just alluded to a third caucus – whoa – that took place in Woonsocket. Tune in now to WPRO to hear about that.

GoLocalProv this morning asks the big question:

should the most powerful elected Rhode Island official resign for the best of the State?

(Kudos to WPRO’s Matt Allen and Maverick for identifying the pitch perfect theme song for yesterday’s events.)
