Did you know…

… that the Governor may have illegally ruined summer in Rhode Island when she shuttered down mid-to-large-sized events and activities? And now she’s talking about TESTING & QUARANTINING tourists who want to spend time and money in our state!

The Governor has improperly stolen our summer … and the General Assembly is letting is happen!

Based on legal analysis by the Flanders Legal Center for Freedom, the forced summertime closures dictated by the Governor in April … far exceed the Governor’s emergency powers, which can only extend 30 days out. For a Governor who has stressed “data driven” decision-making, this crystal-ball prognosticating is not acceptable.

As a result, ranked as the 2nd most restrictive state in the nation in responding to the CV-19 crisis, not only are Rhode Island families and businesses suffering today from arbitrarily harsh social and economic shutdowns by Governor Gina Raimondo … but she has also stolen the summer for residents and tourists by prohibiting mid-size and large gatherings of any kind … and violating our first-amendment right to peaceably assemble.

And the General Assembly has failed to act on its statutory authority, sitting idly by while the wreckage continues to mount.

WE WANT OUR SUMMER BACK
It should be the choice of each organization and each individual whether or not they will safely organize or attend group functions.

In addition to the tens of thousands of Rhode Islanders laid-off from work, dozens of fun and traditional summertime activities have been arbitrarily outlawed by Governor, without authority … and without supporting data. Among the activities we have been told we must forgo:

  • NO large family cookouts, weddings, birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, or pool parties
  • NO funeral gatherings
  • NO public pools for underprivileged children
  • NO WaterFire Providence
  • NO Bristol Fourth of July Parade
