PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Knights of Columbus Rhode Island State Council will host its annual Mother of Life Open House from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Mother of Life Center, 400 Atwells Ave.

The event is co-sponsored by the Rev. Richard A. Donnelly Council No. 322. Visitors can take a guided tour of the facility, learn about its programs, and socialize over sausage and peppers or hot dogs. Donations of diapers, baby wipes and clothing are welcome. Knights of Columbus members may apply participation toward Faith in Action or pregnancy center support credit for the Columbian Award and Star Council.

The Mother of Life Center is a nonprofit women’s life care facility that provides free and confidential support to pregnant teens and women. Its core services include lab-quality pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasounds to confirm viability and gestational age, and one-on-one case management that presents information on pregnancy options.

The center also offers material assistance such as diapers, bottles and clothing; parenting classes; referrals for adoption, social services and community resources; and post-abortion emotional support. Staff address clients’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs and say they support mothers, fathers and babies throughout the pregnancy and early parenting journey.

According to its website, the center operates from a Christian perspective rooted in Catholic teaching on the sanctity of life from conception to natural death. It describes its mission as promoting “the Gospel of Life” through prayer, life-affirming care, pro-life counseling, education and material help, while stating that it does not provide or refer for abortion services, abortifacients or birth control.
