Testimony That U.S. Turmoil Is Not Unprecedented

Cuban expatriate Maximo Alvarez offered testimony at the Republican National Convention that should not be lost in the shuffle of the news cycle:

Maximo Alvarez, a successful American businessman who fled the communist regime of Cuba’s Fidel Castro, offered a powerful testimony Monday in support of President Donald Trump. Alvarez warned Americans of the alternative presented by the Democrats nomination of the most progressive ticket in recent memory.

“I’m speaking to you today because I’ve seen people like this before,” Alvarez told the convention. “I’ve seen movements like this before. I’ve seen ideas like this before and I’m here to tell you, we cannot let them take over our country.”

He spoke about “those who grew up around me… who suffered, and starved, and died because they believed those empty promises” of the Left.  “They swallowed the communist poison pill.”

In the turmoil roiling our nation, we’re not seeing a popular movement of genuine frustration with an oppressive system.  We’re witnessing a coordinated performance, decades in development, to convince the country to replace their system of freedom and democracy with a truly oppressive system.  If this seems like fantastical speculation, consider whether this description of an Antifa “dilemma action” sounds familiar.  Portuguese immigrant Sarah Hoyt testifies that this is the exact playbook of European communists in the 1970s.

We have to find a way to help our neighbors see through the performance and resist the violence and lies behind it.
