Poll: More than a third of American voters don’t trust U.S. power grid

Slightly more than half of American voters say they at least “somewhat trust” the American power grid, according to a new poll. The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll found that 55% of American voters said they completely or somewhat trust the American power grid. When that figure is broken down, 42% of voters said they only “somewhat trust” the power grid and 13% of voters said they “completely trust” the power grid. But 37% of voters say they don’t trust the grid, including 13% who “completely distrust” it.

Many voters blame AI data centers for rising electricity costs

A significant number of American voters are blaming AI data centers for rising energy costs across the country, a new poll reveals. The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll found 15% of registered voters blame AI data centers for rising electricity costs across the country. Additionally, 22% of voters said companies are using AI data centers as an excuse to raise profits. Combine the two responses and 37% of voters blame rising electricity costs on data centers. That’s compared to 27% of voters who blame general inflation.

Most Voters Support Bans on Transgender Athletes in Female Sports

The majority of voters across the country support state bans on transgender athletes competing in girls’ and women’s sports, according to The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll. The Voters’ Voice Poll found that 68% of registered voters support allowing the Supreme Court to uphold state bans on transgender women competing in women’s sports.

Supreme Court continues to consider school transition cases

The U.S. Supreme Court struck down a California policy that allowed schools to withhold information about a child’s gender transition from parents, based on constitutional claims. In Mirabelli v. Bonta, a 6-3 decision, the justices said California’s policy violated the First and 14th amendments. While specific to California, the case has ramifications throughout the rest of the country.

Federal deficit totaled $1 trillion in beginning of FY2026, CBO says

The United States federal budget deficit totaled $1 trillion in the first five months of fiscal year 2026, according to the Congressional Budget Office. The latest federal deficit estimate is $142 billion less than the deficit from this time in the previous fiscal year. The CBO saw tariffs raise the amount of money that came into the federal government during the first five months of the fiscal year.
