Clay Johnson: Honoring Charlie Kirk; A Call to Uphold His Legacy

OPINION PIECE by Clay Johnson – co-chair of Chariho Forgotten Taxpayers, former Chairman of The Gaspee Project, and former Chariho School Committee member.

Fellow patriots,

We are united in grief over the senseless assassination of Charlie Kirk, a fearless champion of freedom. As conservatives, we must honor his legacy by staying true to the values of courage, truth, and free speech that he embodied.

While free speech is the bedrock of our nation, it is shameful that some talking heads and elected officials use it to blame Charlie for his own death. Such rhetoric is un-American. Public leaders must rise above division and guide our nation through this grief, honoring the principles Charlie fought for.

Charlie, a 31-year-old who never attended college, fearlessly took on the challenge of engaging America’s youth. He walked onto hostile campuses, faced down shouting mobs, and sparked debates that had been silenced for decades. His courage gave voice to a generation hungry for truth. As President Trump said last night, “No one understood or had the heart of the youth in the United States of America better than Charlie… Those who promote division and violence will be held accountable.”

This assassination feels different. Flags fly at half-staff, President Trump has spoken from the Oval Office, and foreign leaders offer condolences—all for a man who never held public office but changed the nation through his unwavering commitment.

As the manhunt for the assassin continues, we trust justice will be served. No act of cowardice can diminish the towering inspiration Charlie provided to millions.

Let us honor Charlie by continuing his mission. Support Turning Point USA’s efforts to engage young Americans in open, honest debate. Visit TurningPointUSA.com to learn how you can contribute, volunteer, or share Charlie’s vision for a freer, stronger America.

I believe in the promise of America—a promise Charlie Kirk fought for. Let us honor him by recommitting to that vision. My deepest condolences to our friends at Turning Point USA and Turning Point Action.

In solidarity,

Clay
