GUILTY: RI Media Advanced False ‘Islamophobia’ Narrative in 2023

PUBLISHER’S NOTE: In a stunning revelation in a July 28 Real Clear Investigations report, authored by Dr. Andrew Bostom, Rhode Island’s compliant media has been exposed once again. State news media advanced a false narrative when it persistently claimed that a 2023 shooting of a Muslim man outside an Islamic mosque in Providence was motivated by racial “Islamophobia”. The media, apparently without any investigative journalism effort whatsoever, automatically and eagerly advanced the ‘hate crime’ narrative put forth by mosque officials. In reality, Providence police believed the shooting was a basic run-of-the-mill criminal act, likely perpetrated against a victim with a long criminal record by another man with Islamic connections and a long criminal record.

It is expected for extremist organizations to create false narratives, like “hate crime” allegations, in order to distract from their own radical agendas. It is not expected that media entities should mindlessly publish those narratives.

This negligent and overtly political media action is part of a disturbing pattern in Rhode Island. Not only are legitimate critiques of the progressive policy agenda censured or cancelled by news organizations in our Ocean State, but blatantly false narratives put forth by agenda-driven public officials and/or left-leaning advocacy organizations are dutifully and promoted without question by state media operatives.

Among the many other ‘fake news’ narratives RI media is guilty of advancing, are: the many lies, misinformation, and unsupported regulations and laws during the Covid-19 pandemic; the mythical cost and environmental benefits of wind and solar energy, while ignoring the clear dangers; the unconscionable government laws and regulations regarding K-12 students suffering from gender dysphoria; and more recently the tolerance of antisemitism openly displayed by members of the General Assembly and by candidates for mayor of our state’s capitol city … under the false banner of “free, free Palestine”.

While the press is protected by 1st Amendment to the US Constitution, it’s founding and historical role was designed to be the ‘defender of truth’ and to ‘keep those in power accountable’. In Rhode Island the legacy corporate media has regularly betrayed those principles, instead, arbitrarily choosing to ignore corruption and false narratives … in order to support the misguided politics of the ruling elite.
