The Ocean State Current will host a “town hall” style forum with U.S. Presidential candidate, Steve Laffey, this Friday, March 17, at 12:30 PM at the Chapel Grille restaurant in Cranston, Rhode Island.
.
Laffey, the former two-term mayor (2003-2007) of the city of Cranston, Rhode Island and 2006 Republican primary candidate for the U.S. Senate, announced his candidacy for for president in January. The current Fort Collins, Colorado resident will return to his Cranston home roots for Friday’s forum.
.
“It’s not often that a presidential candidate stumps in Rhode Island. So, when we learned that Steve would be in the state this week, conducting other media interviews, we extended an invitation, which he quickly accepted,” said Mike Stenhouse, CEO of the Rhode Island Center for Freedom & Prosperity and publisher of The Current. “An invitation will similarly be extended to any other presidential candidate who announces plans to stump in our state.”
.
A long-shot candidate in what will likely be a large Republican primary field, Laffey is seeking to position himself as the one candidate who is not afraid to directly take on some of America’s most important issues, including Social Security reform. Referred to by some as “Mayor Steve”, Laffey hopes to match the rapid rise to national political influence achieved by another ex mayor of a mid-sized city, Democrat “Mayor Pete” Buttigieg.
.
Laffey’s campaign could be entitled “Fixing America”, based on his prescient 2011 grassroots documentary of the same name; a film that chronicled how everyday Americans have come to realize that political elites of both parties are destroying their country. Laffey’s campaign centers around his background in business and finance and how he believes he is uniquely qualified to provide solutions to America’s looming financial problems.
.
At Friday’s forum, Laffey will comment on the potential economic crisis facing the nation after the collapse in the past week of Silicon Valley Bank and other banks … a crisis he claims he’s been predicting for years.
.
As part of its continuing Election Waves coverage, The Ocean State Current plans to live-stream the presidential forum at OceanStateCurrent.com/LIVE.
.
The presidential forum will be open to the media, with in-person guests by private invitation. Stenhouse, the event moderator, will introduce and ask questions of the candidate, including those by the audience, and will call on attending media for their inquiries.
