If you’re into ontological contemplation, our current era has been amazingly clarifying about our ability to live in different worlds while physically side by side. To one viewer of our political landscape, for example, this is crazy talk, while to the other it’s pretty much reality beginning to settle in:

President Donald Trump was lauded by inner-city pastors, including one who said he may go down as the “most pro-black president” in recent history, during a White House roundtable on Wednesday that was focused on efforts to reform the prison system.

Likewise this news, which some will see as simply impossible and the other, again, reality beginning to settle in:

A recent Harvard/Harris poll recorded a 10-point spike in Hispanic support for Mr. Trump. It hasn’t received much attention from the mainstream media, which is heavily invested in its portrait of the president as an unrepentant — and unpopular — “nativist.”

Coming in the midst of the nationwide controversy over children and families at the U.S.-Mexico border, it suggests that Hispanics may not be the entrenched liberal voting constituency that Democrats so often imagine.

Meanwhile, one side will see this investigative report as conservative shock-vid manipulation, while the other sees, as Debra Heine puts it, “Communist groups bankrolled by sugar daddies like Tom Steyer and George Soros… throwing ‘$50 at the cannibals who are out there'” for “grassroots” anti-Trump protests with a penchant for violence:

“If you get a good liver or kidney shot, it’s pretty much crippling them,” the Antifa instructor said. “They’re going to be pretty much doubled over and in a lot of pain.”

The instructor also recommended breaking one of the floating ribs to cause maximum pain on a victim. “It’s hard to move after that — to catch a breath,” he added helpfully. He told the activists that once the target is incapacitated, they can either run away or “really put a beating on them” if they want to “make it personal.”

At this point in the post, I’d love to offer my best attempt at a balanced suggestion that would call for some sort of action and compromise from both sides, but to be honest, things seem pretty clearly to lean in one direction much more.  President Trump is a cad, but he’s arrived as advertised, and he managed his victory because Republicans and conservatives were already being attacked unfairly.  And the response of those who’ve been attacking us has been to ramp up their rhetoric to absurd degrees and legitimize violence and public harassment for political reasons.

No matter what conservatives might do, there really isn’t a way back toward comity until progressives acknowledge conservatives’ right to exist, to speak, and to win political contests.
