The Ultimate Joy of Overtime, Part Three of Three: 3 State Employees Tripled Their Pay With O.T.

Part one of our quick look at state overtime noted the context and challenges of finding out that 500 state employees increased their pay 50-99% with overtime..

Part two added in the 102 .

And finally, from the RI Center for Freedom & Prosperity’s state payroll database on RIOpenGov sorted by overtime as a percentage of salary (but excluding “other pay”), we learn that three state employees tripled their pay with overtime. Again, let’s enumerate the numbers, shall we?

Pauline Howard, Community Living Aid:
Salary: $45,523.
Overtime: $96,495.
Other Pay: $3,023.
Total Pay, 2013: $145,040

Francisca Pires, Institution Attendant:
Salary: $39,015.
Overtime: $81,937.
Other Pay: $3,554.
Total Pay, 2013: $124,506

Bernice Clarke, Community Living Aid:
Salary: $40,068.
Overtime: $81,912.
Other Pay: $2,100.
Total Pay, 2013: $124,080.

It should be noted that, while total overtime paid by the state dropped to $64,329,079 in 2013 from $67,851,008 in 2012, the amount of “Other Pay” (which is what, exactly?) rose from $25,785,459 in 2012 to $31,597,229 in 2013. Even if employees receiving this overtime are not in their last five years of employment, it is difficult to see the amount of overtime paid by state taxpayers in 2013 as fiscally responsible on the part of state officials.
