The March Against… at PC

6:02 p.m.

Checking in from the campus of Providence College (a Dominican Catholic institution) at the start of the weather-postponed “March Against Transphobia and Homophobia.”  About 100 gathered outside, maybe more inside the building.

6:16 p.m.

6:29 p.m.

The march is going. Signs reading…

  • “Jesus had  2 Dads and he turned out fine”
  • “You Betta Work”
  • “Love Is Love”
  • “Why care about somebody’s sex life?” (Or something like that.)

And… they’re done.  About 200 people out of PC’s enrollment of about 4,800.

    Marching at a secular college:

Just goes to prove, there is nothing to see here folks. Now, will Smalanskas just shut up.

    • Mike Stenhouse

Why should he be quiet when he was threatened and his own school does nothing about it? You guys can protest but you want him to shut up? Seriously?

      • Melissa

He cannot stop seeking attention for his “story”, fabricated by his own hand, to advance a radical Catholic agenda that is not and never will be shared by the majority of Catholics. He is a joke and the show is over. The school has done plenty to help him.

        • Melissa

And now the truth comes out. It was not an innocent bulletin board meant to be educational for the residents. In his own words, “Smalanskas tells National Review that the bulletin board wasn’t intended to target his residents or any students for their beliefs or their sexuality. In fact, he says it had nothing to do with Providence students at all. “It was basically to expose a double standard on campus that certain positions — mainly conservative and Catholic positions — are not welcome here and are treated with hatred,” he says to me in a phone interview.”

The people who think he is some great prophet really should tell him to shut up before he ruins all the rest of their arguments.

Bye bye Title IX claim- when you are the provocateur you cannot claim you are a victim. Good for you PC. You will be vindicated because the young man was too emamoured of the spotlight and spilled the beans.

      • Rhett Hardwick

“Love one another”, hate everyone who disagrees.

        • Jordan Faust

Exactly the premise Mike was employing by putting up his board.

Just a thought from my days at the “secular” college above. I am not sure of exactly what Mike did in terms of college property. But those who defaced the bulletin board would have committed an “event of dishonor”, since there are no “degrees of honor”, there is only one punishment, “separation from the corps”. Those who actually witnessed the defacement would be required to come forward. For those who did it “honor” would require them to turn themselves in, lest it be blamed on someone else. My daughter went to the Ivy League, “honor” was truly unknown.
