Defeated Congressional Candidate, Waters, Seeks Appointment to Providence School Board
Allen Waters, who just two weeks ago lost his bid to unseat longtime incumbent US Congressman, David Cicilline, is seeking a new position as a member of the Providence School Board. Waters is an outspoken supporter of educational freedom and school choice.
The city of Providence this year amended its charter such that the School Board now has a hybrid structure that combines both elected and appointed seats. Waters is seeking one of the five appointed seats, to join the 5 elected members.
The application deadline is December 19. Waters’ complete email to the new Mayor’s office is below. Waters will be Mike Stenhouse’s guest on his popular In The Dugout video podcast in the coming days.

Team Smiley,
I am interested in being appointed to the City of Providence School Board, an advocate of universal school choice that I am, and a K-12 graduate of Providence Public Schools (Classical High School, Class of 1973).
Things you would not know about how I served because, quite frankly, it has been a while, but I did.
South Providence Tutorial
Rhode Island Coalition for Minority Investment (RICMI)
Langston Hughes Center for the Arts
Providence Country Day School
Bannister House
Dexter Donation
There might be rumors that I might switch from Republican to Blue Dog Democrat, but at the moment they would be just that.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Allen
