Stenhouse: The Great Ocean State Exodus Continues

Opinion: In what can only be viewed as troubling data from the US Census Bureau, our state continues hemorrhage US citizens, while simultaneously attracting foreigners, many of whom are likely undocumented immigrants.

The concerning aspect about this is that those net 10k lost citizens to “domestic migration” – away from our state – are significantly higher earners than the 31k net international migrants gained.

Thanks to WPRI-12 for this chart, which clearly shows that while births and deaths essentially canceled each other out, more and more Americans are choosing not to live in RI. Were it not for international migration, largely due to our state and capital city’s “sanctuary” policies, Rhode Island would be losing population.

Either way, it is a generally accepted fact that because of Rhode Island’s hostile climate for families and businesses, people are choosing not to live in our state … and our meager population growth, which is not keeping up with other states, is almost certainly going to lead to a loss of one of our two prized US House of Representative seats in Congress, following the 20230 US Census.
