Westerly Parental-Rights Activist Blasts Local YMCA for Trans Locker Room Policy

Well-known parental rights activist, Bob Chiaradio, is raising awareness about yet another controversial public policy failure in his town of Westerly, Rhode Island.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: Chiarado will be Sten’s guest on his popular In The Dugout video podcast, which can be viewed anytime after 4pm today at: oceanstatecurrent.com/in-the-dugout-february-27-2023/

Per his Facebook post: Just got off the phone with the Ocean Community YMCA in Westerly. Unfortunately, a person may utilize the locker room of his or her choice based on the gender with which they identify. That means your daughters could be changing for basketball or swimming or gymnastics, and have a male who identifies as a female naked in that locker room, exposed fully to your daughter. If anyone cares about this, and I hope you do please call the YMCA at 401-340-1011, ask for Jennifer Campbell, and make your feelings known.

This controversial and potentially dangerous policy by the local “Y” appears to directly contradict the natioal organization’s stated mission, “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Our Vision: To strengthen our community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Our Values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith.

Based on a comment on his post: I did just also confirm that the same is true at both summer camp facilities… both Watchaug and Ocean Waves. I was told to “keep in mind that there are private changing and bathroom stalls and a staff member supervising the campers” … but obviously the staff might also not be assigned according to gender in the changing/bathrooms, and staff are mostly young high school or college age kids as well.

Another person who contacted the YMCS, wrote: they told me today that it was the Y’s national policy. There is a CEO, Director of HR and others heretplus a Board of Directors at each branch. I am in the process of contacting the Board of Directors right now, but I will publish a list of names of board members.

For years, Chiaradio has a been a vocal advocate against the indoctrination and over-sexualization of K-12 students in the Westerly school district and across the state.
